Symptoms to expect if you’re 24 weeks pregnant

Leg cramps – Jumpy, achy legs signify that you are dehydrated. It can be sometimes a sign of nutrition deficiency, so consult your doctor. Stretch legs often and drink sufficient water to prevent the problem.
Swollen feet and ankles – A little swelling is perfectly normal, but sudden swellings can indicate a pregnancy complication. Keep your legs elevated while sitting to prevent usual swelling.
Back pain – When you are 24 weeks pregnant, the back pain can be worse than before. Since your baby is now bigger, your uterus is pushing against your spine and causing strain.
Stretch marks – These marks will appear more now and if you are 24 weeks pregnant with twins, your chances are higher.

You should start feeling your baby kicking now, as he or she is getting stronger. Gaining 14 to 16 pounds now is quite normal, but sudden or too much weight gain is a matter of concern.
If you are 24 weeks pregnant with twins, you should ideally gain 24 pounds by now. This will reduce your risk of preterm labor as well.

How will your baby look like?

Your baby will weigh around 600g and be a foot long when you are 24 weeks pregnant. The weight will increase gradually and their lungs will be maturing, so that they can start to inhale actual air.
The ear organs will also start to develop, so they will be able to hear your voice and heartbeat! Their face will also be completely formed with hair, eyelashes and eyebrows.
The fetal skin will become more opaque and small capillaries will form, giving your baby a pink glow.

  • Many expecting mothers suffer from gum sensitivity, bleeding gums or teeth problems when they are 24 weeks pregnant. So make sure you visit your dentist and brush and floss regularly for good oral hygiene.
  • Your doctor can also conduct a Glucose Challenge Screening Test to check if you are prone to gestational diabetes. This test measures how your body breaks down sugar over 3 hours.
  • If you are feeling abdominal pain when you are 24 weeks pregnant, you can use an adjustable maternity belt to support your growing belly. Make sure it’s not too tight and doesn’t cause discomfort to the fetus.
  • Eat more fruits, vegetables, nuts, grilled and steamed foods rather than fried items or sugary treats. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Broccoli, spinach, carrots, oranges, and papaya are especially great now.

  • Increased vaginal discharge
  • Change in the discharge type
  • Vaginal spotting or bleeding
  • Menstrual-like cramps
  • Increased pressure in the pelvic region
